What’s clear is that hybrid IT is a reality today – it’s not a future state. How are Dimension Data and Dell EMC helping our clients to make sense of and optimise these environments?

Over the last two years, through our Catalyst Alliance, Dimension Data and Dell EMC have jointly engaged with clients across various industries to help them optimise their hybrid IT environments. In this blog, we’ll share some of the key findings from these conversations.

Hybrid IT is here

What’s clear is that hybrid IT is a reality today – it’s not a future state. Already, most organisations are working with multiple clouds, including on-premise private clouds, and those of the hyperscale providers.

So today, we see clients struggling less with technology integration, but more with services integration. Their challenge is to ensure that their existing hybrid environment works for the business and moves at the required speed.

How are Dimension Data and Dell EMC helping our clients to make sense of and optimise these environments?

New choices

Our advice to clients is to recognise that in the world of hybrid IT there are many choices and approaches.

Technologies have evolved and matured considerably in recent years. For example, if we look at dedicated on-premise infrastructure, your options now include an on-premise private cloud stack, as well hyperconvergence technologies, which deliver speed and a cloud-like experience within the on-premise environment.

The challenge associated with managing multiple clouds has emerged as a consistent theme in our client conversations. Increased use of cloud is also driving both cloud and network costs upwards. Here, we recommend automation to ensure that organisations are able to take full advantage of the consumption-based nature of cloud.

Our consulting teams have worked extensively with clients to help them make informed technology decisions and evaluate the new options available. We also assist in determining which workloads belong where, so that IT is able to deliver a consistent, end-to-end service experience to the business.

Data matters

We also emphasise to clients that ensuring that they understand their data ─ and where it should be placed ─ are essential to optimising their hybrid IT environments.

Data is your core corporate asset. But how do you keep track of your data and move it to where it needs to be, at the right time? How do you make sure you keep your network costs under control and ensure governance and data sovereignty? Could an all-flash storage environment help address this complexity while adding flexibility and speed and improving application performance?

Together, our companies have assisted a number of organisations solve these challenges through our managed services capabilities.
